How Much Does Eliquis Cost With Insurance
You’ll have to check with your pharmacist or healthcare provider to calculate your copay with insurance coverage, as costs vary by health plans. With a SingleCare copay card, you could pay a reduced price of $480.51 on an Eliquis prescription. This could be cheaper than your insurance. To compare Eliquis prices, ask the pharmacist to run your prescription discount card before you buy.
Is There A Cheaper Alternative To Eliquis
All of the newer blood thinners which include Eliquis, Xarelto, and Pradaxa are currently under their original patent. This means that none of these medications currently have generic substitutions available, thus cost continues to be an issue. For some prescription plans, Xarelto may offer a better co-pay price then Eliquis. The first of these medications that will likely go generic will be Pradaxa, as the original patent will expire in 2021. At this time the only anticoagulant medication that is generic is warfarin. It has been generic for over 50 years, and it is certainly cheap. However, there is frequent blood work involved and the anticoagulant effects of the medication are less stable due to daily fluctuations of the medications when compared to newer anticoagulants. These days the only reason I put my atrial fibrillation patients on warfarin is due to cost related reasons.
As always, ask your doctor if Eliquis is right for you. Do not make changes to your treatment plan based on this educational information. All data shared is accurate as of November 2018. Please visit the individual websites directly for up to date information.

How Do I Get A Eliquis Manufacturer Copay Coupon Savings Card
After trying the steps mentioned above, the Eliquis coupon may be the best option because it does lower copay or deductible costs. Once you confirm that Eliquis worked and was well tolerated, a coupon can be obtained here.
Bristol Myers Squibb claims that patients can get Eliquis for as low as $10 dollars for a 30 day supply using the Eliquis coupon. This is based on income and not everyone will have the copay go all the way down to $10. Some pharmacies may not accept the coupon so you may want to ask them ahead of time. Mail order pharmacies have a rebate for that can be used as most will not accept the regular coupon.
Please remember the Eliquis coupon has a maximum payout of $3,800. Therefore, if you have to pay $472 per fill the card would max out after 8 fills!
Finally, the Eliquis manufacturer copay coupon is good for 24 months . After that time period you would have to request another activated copay card from the manufacturer.
Are There Therapeutic Alternatives To Eliquis
A therapeutic alternative is a drug that had different chemical contents, but has the same effects as other drugs for treating a condition. Eliquis has no generic alternative, but does havetherapeutic alternatives. Some of these therapeutic alternatives have generics which also means they will be substantially cheaper.
Before trying an Eliquis coupon make sure to consider the following:
- Some insurance formularies may prefer Xarelto over Eliquis, making it less costly.
- Pradaxa is likely to lose its patent in 2021, meaning cheaper generics are not that far off.
- Warfarin has been used generically for over 50 years and is much cheaper.
Warfarin will save significant amounts on the cost of the drug. However, keep in mind it does require frequent trips to the healthcare office to get bloodwork done. Make sure to ask your doctor about all the options based on your financial situation to help make the best decision for you.

Three Ways To Save Money On Your Eliquis
Since being FDA approved in 2012, Eliquis has become an excellent option for the prevention of stroke in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. Eliquis was approved based on the results of the 2011 ARISTOTLE Trial. During this trial, over 18,000 patients were studied. Eliquis was compared to Warfarin over a mean period of 1.8 years. During this study Eliquis was shown to be superior to Warfarin in reducing risk of stroke. Patients taking Eliquis also showed significantly less risk for major bleeding compared to Warfarin.
Over the last 6 years Eliquis has continued to demonstrate its effectiveness at reducing risk of stroke while maintain a lower risk for significant bleeding. Because of its continued success, Eliquis is now advertised as the #1 prescribed blood thinner by Cardiologists.
I manage many patients on Eliquis, but it is not the right fit for everyone. One major reason for this is due to cost. Like many newer medications, patients taking Eliquis may end up with significant out of pocket expenses.

How Is Eliquis Used
Eliquis comes in an oral tablet form, either 2.5 mg or 5 mg dose, and its usually taken with or without food twice a day. If you cannot swallow tablets, you can crush them alternatively and mix the resulting powder with water, apple juice, or even applesauce. Remember to swallow the mixture immediately after you prepare it.
You should take apixaban at around the same time every day exactly as directed. Do not alter the dose prescribed by your doctor. You should complete the course of tablets, and you should continue to take Eliquis even if you feel well. If you stop taking the medication prior to the course ending or before consulting with your doctor, you may be at an increased risk of a blood clot.
Which Food Should I Avoid While Taking Eliquis
Before taking Eliquis, you should discuss possible dietary restrictions with your doctor. He or she may suggest moderation or avoidance of alcohol and grapefruit or products containing grapefruit juice.
Other possible interactions of Eliquis include additional blood-thinner medications, such as over-the-counter aspirin. Consult your healthcare provider for other possible food and drug interactions with Eliquis.

Retail Vs Mail Order / Online
The use of a mail order or online pharmacy can provide modest savings over a retail pharmacy. Often the cost of the medication is the same, but the insurance company allows an individual to receive a greater quantity of their medication if they use a mail order pharmacy. For example, an individual might have a $20 co-pay for a 30-day supply of a medication filled at a retail pharmacy. They may be able to receive a 90-day supply by using a mail order pharmacy for the same $20 co-pay.
As valuable as the cost savings of mail order, is the convenience of mail order. Aside from not having to travel to the pharmacy, most mail order pharmacies will call the individual to remind them when it is time to refill a prescription or when a new prescription is required. Some mail order pharmacies will even call the doctor on the individuals behalf to request a new prescription for the same medication if the patient has used all of their refills.

Some insurance companies may provide a one-time refill for your medication after you first enroll. Ask your insurance company if they offer a one-time refill until you can discuss next steps with your doctor.
If you cant get a one-time refill, you have the right to follow your insurance companys drug exceptions process, which allows you to get a prescribed drug thats not normally covered by your health plan. Because the details of every plans exceptions process are different, you should contact your insurance company for more information.
Generally, to get your drug covered through the exceptions process, your doctor must confirm to your health plan that the drug is appropriate for your medical condition based on one or more of the following:
- All other drugs covered by the plan havent been or wont be as effective as the drug youre asking for
- Any alternative drug covered by your plan has caused or is likely to cause side effects that may be harmful to you
- If theres a limit on the number of doses youre allowed:
- That the allowed dosage hasnt worked for your condition, or
- The drug likely wont work for you based on your physical or mental makeup. For example, based on your body weight, you may need to take more doses than whats allowed by your plan.
If you get the exception:

You may have a higher risk of bleeding if you take ELIQUIS and take other medicines that increase your risk of bleeding, such as aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs , warfarin, heparin, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors , and other medicines to help prevent or treat blood clots. Tell your doctor about all of the medicines you take, including any over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
