Does The Plan B Morning

How to Plan a Winning CVS Shopping Trip for Beginners | Couponing 101

The morning-after pill is super safe, and Plan B side effects arent super common. There have been no reports of serious problems out of the millions of people whove taken it.

After you take the morning-after pill, it’s totally normal for your next period to be different from what youre used to. It may come earlier or later, and be heavier, lighter, or more spotty. Or it may be the same as it normally is.

You may get an upset stomach, feel lightheaded or dizzy, or have tender breasts for a short while when you take the morning-after pill. If you throw up within 2 hours of taking the pill, it won’t work and youll need to take it again.

Where To Get Ella

Ella is available only by prescription, which you can get from your doctor, nurse, or family planning clinic.

Depending on the state you live in, your pharmacist may be able to write you a prescription for Ella . Call your pharmacy first, and ask about their procedures and if they have Ella in stock.

Even if the morning-after pill is located behind the pharmacy counter, remember that you don’t need to show a form of identification to buy it. You need only to ask for it.

How Effective Is Plan B One

A levonorgestrel morning-after pill like Plan B One Step, Next Choice One Dose, Take Action, My Way, and AfterPill can lower your chance of getting pregnant by 75-89% if you take it within 3 days after unprotected sex.

You can take Plan B, My Way, Next Choice, and other levonorgestrel morning-after pills up to 5 days after unprotected sex. But the longer you wait to take it, the less effective it is.

These types of morning-after pills are also less effective if you have a higher BMI. If thats the case, the copper IUD or ella are better options for you. Our handy quiz can help you figure out which EC is best for you.

Though there are many different brands of levonorgestrel morning-after pills, they all work the same way. One brand isnt any more effective than another.

How Is Plan B Intrauterine System Used

Plan B is a T-shaped plastic device that is inserted through the vagina and placed into the uterus. You will receive the device in a clinic setting. Your doctor will place the device into your uterus using a thin plastic tube. The device is usually inserted within 7 days after the start of a menstrual period.

You may feel pain or dizziness during insertion of the intrauterine device. You may also have some vaginal bleeding. These symptoms should last only 30 minutes or less after the device is inserted, especially if you stay in a sitting or lying position during that time. Tell your doctor if you still have these symptoms after 30 minutes have passed.

A pair of strings is attached to the device for removal when you decide to discontinue using it. Your doctor will cut these strings short enough so they do not protrude from your vagina. Do not pull on the strings or attempt to remove the device.

After each menstrual period you should check to make sure you can still feel the removal strings. Wash your hands with soap and water, and insert your clean fingers into the vagina. You should be able to feel the strings deep inside the vagina, at the opening of your cervix. Call your doctor at once if you cannot feel the strings, or if you think the device has slipped lower in your uterus or out of your uterus. A sudden increase in menstrual flow may be a sign that the device has slipped out of place.

What Is Plan B

Plan B is the EC pill thats talked about most often.

It contains a synthetic version of the progestin hormone called levonorgestrel, which temporarily prevents an ovary from releasing an egg.

The same hormone can be found in regular birth control pills, though Plan B contains a higher dose.

No ovulation means that theres nothing for the sperm to come into contact with and, therefore, no way of falling pregnant.

However, no EC pill is 100-percent effective, as things like whether youve already ovulated and how quickly you take it affect how well they work.

For example, Plan B is best taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Its also important to remember that EC pills cannot protect against sexually transmitted infections or terminate an existing pregnancy.

How Do Plan B And Other Levonorgestrel Morning

Take levonorgestrel morning-after pills as soon as you can after unprotected sex. Simply swallow the tablet the way you would any other pill. Read the instructions that come in the package for more information.

You can take these morning-after pills up to 5 days after unprotected sex, but they work much better if you take them during the first 3 days.

Take a pregnancy test if you havent gotten your period within 3 weeks after taking the morning-after pill.

Dont take Plan B One-Step or other levonorgestrel morning-after pills if youve taken ella since your last period. And dont take more than 1 dose of any kind of morning-after pill it wont give you extra protection from pregnancy, but it can make you feel nauseous.

What Should I Avoid While Using Plan B Intrauterine System

Avoid having sexual intercourse with more than one partner. Also avoid having sexual intercourse with a partner who has other sexual partners besides you. The intrauterine device can increase your risk of developing a serious pelvic infection, which is often caused by sexually transmitted disease.

Plan B intrauterine system will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases–including HIV and AIDS. Using a condom is the only way to help protect yourself from these diseases.

Contact your doctor if your sexual partner develops HIV or a sexually transmitted disease, or if you have any change in sexual relationships.
